Technology & Public Administration

Transparency & Communication in Technology

Technology has advanced in ways that many could not have predicted. Not only has the economy shifted to a more digital platform, but communication and how we interact with one another has changed drastically. However, as these technological advances bring about some positives, there are also problems with security and transparency. This paper tackles some of the major problems public administrators face regarding the constant battle of advancing technology and security. This paper also gives insight to these policy problems and attempts to solve and bring light to issues such as the Digital Divide, Ransomware, etc. With communication being a core competency in the MPA program, this piece shows how important communication really is within public administration as it continues to advance.

Whistleblowing is a huge form of communication. As a public administrator, transparency is pivotal when attempting to increase the public's understanding to what is going on. In this piece, I show a case of whistleblowing and how it is important to let the citizens and other key role players know how they are effected. Being an administrator that serves the public, it is important to hone the skill of communication and transparency. In addition to giving the situation as well as mentioning all the stakeholders involved, this paper gives recommendations in efforts to bring transparency a little closer to being user friendly so that many if not all can understand what is going on, and how they can protect themselves in the future.
